Make checks payable to UCSF Foundation. Please include instructions on the memo line or attach a note telling us how you would like to designate your gift (for example, cancer research, children’s health, HIV cure, etc.)

Types of Giving

What is an outright gift?

An outright gift is a donation of cash, securities, or personal property that is immediately available for use by the project or program you wish to support in contrast to an endowment gift , which is invested, or a pledge, which is paid over time.


How do I make a gift in my will or estate plan?

Please visit our Planned Giving website to learn more about the various types of planned gifts and how they can benefit you as well as UCSF.


How do I make a gift of securities, mutual funds, or by wire transfer?

Please share the details of your gift using our Securities and Wire Transfers form. A UCSF representative will contact you to help you complete your donation.


Can I recommend a grant to UCSF with my donor-advised fund?

Yes. Please visit our Donor-Advised Funds page to begin this process.


Does UCSF accept gifts of digital currency (crypto)?

Yes, we utilize Engiven as our primary broker to help facilitate and liquidate the assets. Please share the details of your gift using our secure crypto donation page.

Can I make a gift in honor or in memory of someone?

Yes, you can make a tribute gift online, by mail, or by phone. At your request, we will send a notification of your gift to the honoree or their next of kin. You also have the option of sending a card to the honoree.


Will my employer match my gift?

Use our search tool to find out if your company offers a matching gifts program. With a few simple steps, you may be able to double or even triple the impact of your gift.

Are donations tax-deductible in the United States?

The UCSF Foundation is a registered 501c3 organization. The extent to which your gift is tax-deductible depends on your individual circumstances; we recommend consulting a tax professional to determine the deductibility of your gift.


Do donations qualify for tax deductions in other countries?

Consult with a tax professional to determine whether a gift from a country other than the United States is tax-deductible.

International Giving

Are international donations accepted?

Yes, you can give securely online using your credit card. You may also transfer funds in your home currency using Convera. If you require further assistance, please call us at (415) 476-3952 or email gifthelp@ucsf.edu.


Do donations qualify for tax deductions in other countries?

Processing & Receipts

Will I receive a receipt?

Yes, receipts are generated for all gifts. For online gifts, you will receive a receipt by email.


What if I need a duplicate receipt?

Call (415) 476-3952 or email gifthelp@ucsf.edu to request a duplicate receipt.

I am making a tribute gift. How do gift receipts and gift notifications differ?

As a tribute donor, you will receive a gift receipt indicating the amount and the date of your gift. At your request, we will also send a gift notification (to the honoree or their next of kin) that informs them of your donation and excludes the gift amount.


How quickly will my donation be processed?

Generally, gifts are processed within one week. However, during peak giving periods, such as the end of the calendar year, processing may take longer.


Can I make an anonymous donation?

Yes. Gifts can be made anonymously at your request.

Are gifts assessed for infrastructure costs or central services?

All gifts and endowment income (except for scholarships) are subject to the University’s Infrastructure and Operations Fund assessment.
